"This is a hinge point in the history of the Church, and your part is vital." | President Nelson's Message to Us

"It is your personal preparation that will help April’s general conference become for you not only memorable but unforgettable. The time to act is now. This is a hinge point in the history of the Church, and your part is vital." - President Russel M. Nelson (January 1, 2020).

As we get closer and closer to April's General Conference, President Nelson has continually been urging members to study the life of Joseph Smith, the Restoration, and the Book of Mormon. Calling April's conference a "hinge point in the history of the Church" should give members the impression of how important preparation is going to be.

But what is a "hinge point?"

According to futurelearn.com, "a hinge-point s a diagnostic question that you ask your students when you reach the hinge, responses to which give you evidence about what you and your students need to do next."

Without a doubt, April General Conference will be unforgettable, and it sounds like we as members could possibly be seeing more of the restoration unfold in the next six months than we realize. President Nelson is urging us to prepare, so that he can give us further instruction and guidance from Heavenly Father and how we can continue to further the work in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world.

Are you excited for General Conference this year? What are you doing in order to prepare for it?

President Nelson urged us to do THREE things.

#1 - Study the Book of Mormon

President Nelson asked members to ask themselves questions pertaining to their life and the Gospel; one of them being:

“How would my life be different if my knowledge gained from the Book of Mormon were suddenly taken away?”

#2 - Study the First Vision

In a Facebook post, President Nelson said:

"You may wish to begin your preparation by reading afresh Joseph Smith’s account of the First Vision as recorded in the Pearl of Great Price."

As well, he asked us to ponder the questions: "How have the events that followed the First Vision made a difference for me and my loved ones?"

#3 - Study the Restoration of the Gospel

"God loves all of His children and has a vision for each of us. Just as He listened to Joseph’s prayer in 1820, He listens to you and yearns to speak with you through the Spirit. We invite you to be a major part of sharing the message of the ongoing restoration of the Savior’s gospel. We will share more about this soon, but you can start today by acting on the invitations I extended to you at last general conference to immerse yourself in the glorious light of the Restoration."

President Nelson promised that as we do these things, "general conference next April will not only be memorable, it will be unforgettable."
