President Nelson says "Unusual times can bring unusual rewards" as LDS Members report on Spiritual Growth

President Russell M. Nelson opened up the October 2020 General Conference meeting with amazing statistics about the spiritual growth of members due to Come Follow Me, and COVID-19.

Due to the current and ongoing pandemic, General Conference was done completely virtual, as was the case last April. President Nelson reported that last April's General Conference was viewed by more people than any other conference preceding it. Missionaries and members have had to get more resourceful to do missionary work, while other missions have reported a growth in teaching.

"Unusual times can bring unusual rewards" he said.

Because of the pandemic, many members cannot attend church. In a blog article posted earlier this year, we discussed how amazing the Come Follow Me program is in that it prepared for a home centered church study.

That's beauty though of being a part of Church that constantly receives divine revelation from God through his servants the Prophets. At times we may feel like Heavenly Father isn't there, or that the revelations and guidance he gives to the General Authorities are not in line with what we want NOW. But Heavenly IS there and he is listening, and He knows what we need now, but he also knows what we will need in the future.

1 Nephi 9:6"But the Lord knoweth all things from the beginning; wherefore, he prepareth a way to accomplish all his works among the children of men; for behold, he hath all power unto the fulfilling of all his words. And thus it is. Amen."
2 Nephi 2:24: "But behold, all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things."

Because of the Come Follow Me program, and Church  being more home centered than it ever has been, President Nelson reported that because of the "increased gospel study" in the homes that there been an increase in testimony and family relationships. One mother wrote:

"We feel much closer to our children and grandchildren, now that we gather on Zoom every Sunday. Each takes a turn giving their thoughts on Come Follow Me. Prayers for our family members have changed because we now better understand what they need."

President Nelson ended with some final words advice on how to continue to better ourselves through this pandemic. All members should take the following to heart:

"I pray that we as a people are using this unique time to grow spiritually. We are here on Earth to be tested, to see if we will choose to follow Jesus Christ, to repent regularly, and to learn and progress. Our spirits long to progress, and we do that best by staying firmly on the covenant path. Through it all, our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ love us. They care for us. They and their holy angels are watching over us. I know it's true."

He then invited members to ponder this promise:

"Whosoever will, may lay a hold upon the word of God, which is quick and powerful, which shall divide asunder all the cunning and the wilds of the devil, and lead the disciple of Christ in a straight and narrow course."
