5 HUGE Changes The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Made in 2020

2020 was definitely a memorable year for both positive and negative reasons. A lot of changes were made in society due to COVID-19, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was no different in the changes they made. However, there were many NON-COVID related changes that the Church made in 2020. Here are 5 of them that we found interesting:

1) President Nelson Announces New Church Symbol

“The symbol will now be used as a visual identifier for official literature, news, and events of the Church,” President Nelson said. “It will remind all that this is the Savior’s Church and that all we do, as members of His Church, centers on Jesus Christ and His gospel.”

2) A New Proclamation for the Church

During the April session of General Conference, the President Russell M. Nelson introduced the new proclamation "The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ" which was pre-recorded in the Sacred Grove. After the new proclamation was announced, President Nelson led the members worldwide in a Hosanna Shout. All of this marked the 200th anniversary of Joseph Smith's First Vision.

3) Updated Missionary Attire

In specific locations approved by the First Presidency, some missionaries can have adjusted attire to "improve and maintain missionary dignity, safety, effectiveness, approachability, and cultural sensitivity while properly representing the Lord and His Church."

Some of the attire changes included the allowance of wearing blue shirts, and no ties.

4) Adjustments to Temple Ceremonial Clothing

At the beginning of 2020, The First Presidency announced adjustments to the Temple Ceremonial Clothing stating:

“These clothing adjustments do not change temple doctrine or symbolism but are designed to enhance members’ experience in the temple and make the ceremonial clothing easier to put on, care for, and afford.”

Unfortunately due to the pandemic, production on this stopped. However, production has since resumed.

5) Change in how Seminary is run starting in 2021

At the end of the year, the Church announced that seminary would follow in line with Come Follow Me, and that there would be a greater emphasis on scripture study, requiring students to read a high percent in order to pass.
