Since the Book of Mormon was first published in March of 1830 critics have attempted to discredit the book. Elder Holland said it best in a talk he gave in October 2009, "For 179 years this book has been examined and attacked, denied and deconstructed, targeted and torn apart like perhaps no other book in modern religious history—perhaps like no other book in any religious history. And still it stands. Failed theories about its origins have been born and parroted and have died—from Ethan Smith to Solomon Spaulding to deranged paranoid to cunning genius. None of these frankly pathetic answers for this book has ever withstood examination because there is no other answer than the one Joseph gave as its young, unlearned translator. In this I stand with my own great-grandfather, who said simply enough, 'No wicked man could write such a book as this; and no good man would write it, unless it were true and he were commanded of God to do so'. "
Evidence for the book of Mormon abounds, from the testimony of the Three Witnesses and Eight Witnesses who saw and handled the plate, to places named in the Book of Mormon, that were recently discovered such as “Nahom”.
Literary structures like chiasmus are also found within the Book of Mormon, as well as complexity that is beyond the reach of an unlearned plowboy. Stylometry (statistical analysis of word patterns) show that the Book of Mormon contains multiple distinct “voices.”
We've created this list of books, for those who are curious about evidence that supports the Book of Mormon. However, the best testament of the truthfulness of this book, is a personal witness from the Holy Ghost, which will come after sincere study of the book and petitioning God in prayer if the Book of Mormon is true. See Moroni's promise in Moroni 10: 3-5.
