If you're a fan of the original Star Wars story with characters like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, or just coming into the story with new characters like Rey and Finn, it's easy to see that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has a lot of similarities to this beloved franchise.
Don't believe us? Here are a few!
The Force is what gives the Jedi and Sith their amazing abilities. It can be harnessed in two ways, either for good or for evil. Similarly, the Priesthood, when used by a worthy priesthood holder, can make blessings and miracles in the lives of those it is used for. But also, the opposite side to Priesthood is Priestcraft, the misuse of the Priesthood. The struggle throughout Star Wars is finding a balance with the Force and becoming the best possible version of ourselves through trials.
But there is also another struggle that centers itself throughout Star Wars and the Force and that is the struggle between Fatih and Fear. The famous line "fear turns to anger, anger turns to hate, and hate leads to the darkside" is the path that leads to the downfall of Anakin Skywalker turning into Darth Vader, but it is also a struggle that we face every day in this mortal life.
Elder Quentin L. Cook said in a 2007 conference talk, "When we choose to follow Christ in faith rather than choosing another path out of fear, we are blessed with a consequence that is consistent with our choice."
The General Authorities of the Church lead the Church through their various leadership roles and programs that they implement. The head of the Church is Prophet and President, and below him are the Qurorum of the 12 Apostles, and so on and so forth.
One could say that Yoda is the head of the Jedi Council as he is the oldest and wisest of the Jedi. What is a really cool Star Wars fact however is the fact that on the Jedi Council are 12 Jedi Masters according to Star Wars Wiki:
The Jedi High Council, simply known as the Jedi Council, was the ruling body of the Jedi Order. Situated in one of the four towers of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, the Council consisted of twelve Jedi Masters who oversaw and governed the Order as a whole
Jedi's are ambassadors and protectors of the peace who go two-by-two. There is a Jedi Master, and their Jedi Apprentice (or Padawan). The role of a Jedi Master is to teach their apprentice about the ways of the force, and how to handle the various situations that they go through.
Similarly, when young men and young women go out into the mission field, they are partnered two-by-two. One companion is considered the Senior Companion or trainer, while the other is the junior companion or trainee. The more experienced missionary is there to guide and teach and to show the younger missionary how to be a missionary through going through the various lessons and experiences one goes through as a missionary.
