"Come Follow Me" Program Solves Coronavirus Fears

In 2018, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that a series of home study materials was going to be released for members call Come Follow Me - For Individuals and Families. In addition to the new teaching resources, there would be Come Follow Me programs for Sunday School and Primary starting on January 2019. Similarly, in January 2019 the Church moved from being a three-hour service to a two-hour Sunday block.

Church President Russell M. Nelson announced the meeting changes are part of the “new balance between and connection gospel instruction in the home and in the Church,” calling the instruction adjustments a move to “home-centered church.”

The emphasis to a more "home-centered church" is an interesting one, and with the breakout of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) shutting down Latter-day Saint temples all around the world, as well as some Church service meetings and activities in various states, it almost seems like the Come Follow Me program came at the perfect time right?

That's beauty though of being a part of Church that constantly receives divine revelation from God through his servants the Prophets. At times we may feel like Heavenly Father isn't there, or that the revelations and guidance he gives to the General Authorities are not in line with what we want NOW. But Heavenly IS there and he is listening, and He knows what we need now, but he also knows what we will need in the future.

1 Nephi 9:6"But the Lord knoweth all things from the beginning; wherefore, he prepareth a way to accomplish all his works among the children of men; for behold, he hath all power unto the fulfilling of all his words. And thus it is. Amen."

2 Nephi 2:24: "But behold, all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things."

The Come Follow Me program is a way for family to strengthen their testimonies and understanding of the gospel in the safest place on earth; their own homes. With the Coronavirus fears across the world, and members questions how the Church will function if Sunday meetings and weekly activities are canceled, it's nice to know that Heavenly Father implemented a program in 2019 that prepared us for a more "home-centered church."
