What Happens When You Don't Read the Scriptures? | Enos - Words of Mormon | Come Follow Me

There is so many amazing things that can be discussed and studied in this weeks' Come Follow me, however the question I want to focus on this week is: What happens when you don't read the scriptures?

In Omni 1:12-22 we read about a group of people who Mosiah found that had left Jerusalem around and made their way to the promised land. The state that these people were in, however, was not ideal.

Omni 1:17 says: "And at the time that Mosiah discovered them, they had become exceedingly numerous. Nevertheless, they had had many wars and serious contentions, and had fallen by the sword from time to time; and their language had become corrupted; and they had brought no records with them; and they denied the being of their Creator; and Mosiah, nor the people of Mosiah, could understand them."

The key part of this verse is "and they had brought no records with them; and they denied the being of their Creator..." which led to "many wars and serious contentions...and their language had become corrupted..."

So why is reading the scriptures so important? Why is studying the scriptures so crucial to our existence?

For starters, to avoid the violence of war and contentions with each other. I truly believe that getting angry at someone and having negative thoughts is almost impossible to have after reading the scriptures. Also, keeping our testimony alive of the Restored gospel and the Atonement of the Savior is so much easier when we nourish ourselves with scripture study.
