Warnings from the Prophet | 2 Nephi 6-10 | Come Follow Me

We've hit the Isaiah chapters in the Book of Mormon! With the help of David Ridges, we get some help understanding this week's Come Follow Me lesson.

Let's start by focusing on the warnings that Isaiah discusses in 2 Nephi 9:27-54.

2 Nephi chapter 9 is so important to study because it focuses on Christ and His Atonement. Jacob quotes from the writings of Isaiah, discusses the importance of repentance and faith, and talks about spiritual death and the after life. So how does this connect to the warnings given to us starting in versus 27? If we are unable to heed the warnings that are listed below, we will not be able to access fully the Atonement and escape hell.

In verse 26 of chapter 9, it says: "For the atonement satisfieth the demands of his justice upon all those who have not the law given to them, that they are delivered from that awful monster, death and hell, and the devil, and the lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment..."

So what are the warnings that Isaiah tells us watch out for? Here are a few of them from versus 27-54:

- Thinking you are so wise that you don't need to follow God's council (verse 28)

- Focusing on money and wealth rather than spiritual matters (verse 30)

- Those who refuse to listen, understand, and live spiritual truths that they know are true (verse 31-32)

- Lying (verse 34)

- Committing sexual sin in all forms (verse 36)

- Worshiping false idols (verse 37)

Are these not the things that are promoted constantly in the world that we live in today?

As you read through the rest of Come Follow Me this week, consider the importance of the Atonement, and how much Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love us. Think about the words of the prophets and how much meaning and weight their words have in modern times.
