The most influential person on the planet never had a successful money-making business. He was poor in worldly standards and didn’t have much at all. His name was Jesus of Nazareth, and in fact, He did have a business! It was the business of his Father who sent Him to earth to redeem us. He died on the cross and perhaps thought at the time that He had an unsuccessful mission, but His earthly mission was by far the most remarkable of anyone. (As such) it’s a very Christlike thing to put aside a career, for example, and your personal time to take care of heaven-sent children who can change the world tomorrow.* p. 19

In my experience as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, preparation isn’t just about food and water storage. It’s also about gaining a special relationship with Jesus Christ by serving others, praying, attending church, and making covenants in the temple. When there are storms in life—whether they be spiritual or physical storms—if we take the time to prepare now, we can face those storms with greater strength and confidence. Preparation equips us with the tools, resilience, and faith needed to weather any challenge.* p. 45

The Chinese say, “A dragon begets a dragon, a phoenix births a phoenix, and the child of a mouse is good at digging holes.” As a child of a frogman, I can’t swim—I remain anchored on land. But as a child of God, I remain firmly grounded in the gospel of Jesus Christ and create my own path. In the spirit of the words of Rumi the poet, “There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.” I bow to God in the way I’m grateful for the ocean.* p.68

I never knew I was capable of so much strength. But this is what faith does. It increases our understanding of God and His plan for us. It gives us a sense of hope during trying times and lifts us. When we don’t feel we have the strength to carry on by ourselves, He carries us. And when we look for Him, we will see Him. Even in the tiniest of details in our lives. I could see His hand in all of this—in Jack’s strength, in the timing of the nurses, in the comforting presence of my family. He was there.* p. 106

Eternal families and the bonds we share are central to the plan of happiness established by our Heavenly Father. As we navigate challenges, the gospel of Jesus Christ provides strength and resilience. President Gordon B. Hinckley once said, “The great plan of happiness is designed to bring us home to our Heavenly Father.” This truth reminds us that covenants and commandments guide us and that this life prepares us for eternal joy.* p. 189

Wherever we turn in the world, there is need. It’s just a matter of opening our eyes and remembering that when we serve, we are God’s hands here on earth. ... Whether it’s using our hands to serve the hungry, wash the hair of the poor, pack up and deliver essential items to the needy, assist those who have been displaced, or embrace someone experiencing grief, pain, and loss, we can be a conduit of God’s love for them.* p. 233

Over the years, my work has given me the privilege of connecting with diverse individuals and communities, not just in Utah, California, and Nigeria but all around the world. So when the moment arrived that I found myself in need, facing the potential loss of my unborn child, it was these same connections who rallied around me. This support blended seamlessly with the profound faith and prayers from those both in and out of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, enriching the tapestry of community that enveloped us. The power of our collective faith and unity was palpable as friends, family, and Church members from every corner of the globe joined together to offer their prayers and fast in solidarity. This outpouring of support was not just a testament to the bonds we’d formed but also a profound reminder of the strength that comes from such unity.* p. 268-269
