Continue ShoppingAuthors,
Here is a list of developmental editors or content editors. This type of editing will dive into tone, style, and pacing. If you're on this page, we will also have given you some input that you can send to the editor you choose so that they know what it is we're looking for. They should then be able to read through your manuscript and help you know exactly what you need to do.
If you're signed with us and we haven't given you a list of things we want them to watch for in your book, contact Emily Clark, the Acquisitions Editor, at eclark@cedarfort.com.
We have no preference of one editor on this list over another. We do recommend getting a quote from them on their work, and asking if they offer a free sample edit. Usually this is a few pages at the beginning of your manuscript. That way you can see how they work and if it is helpful to you without having to pay anything up front.
Some of these editors offer other services, such as line edits or proofs. A line edit is similar to a content edit in that it looks at the entire piece and how to improve it, only a line edit is a much deeper dive, down to every sentence, or line in the manuscript. Line edits often focus on readability, including sentence structure, word choice, and consistency in tone and style. You may feel your book could benefit from a line edit, but if we've sent you to this page, we're only asking for a content edit before you resubmit your book.
I will do a free five-page edit sample. After that, we can discuss a contract. I charge $3.00 per double-spaced page, and I use the Chicago Manual of Style for grammar rules and style.
Please contact me for any questions or to schedule an edit at jaclynweist@gmail.com.

I've been doing professional developmental editing for two years. I've also done writing and marketing coaching sessions for clients, two of whom have gone on to become 6-figure authors.
As for my editing rates, I charge .03 per word and my normal turnaround is 2-3 weeks depending on length and the client's needs. I'm professional and encouraging with newer writers and as a member of the LDS church, I respect Cedar Fort and their mission.

We provide a free sample edit, up to 1500 words, so you can get a feel for our style and see if we might be a good fit.

If you already have a contract with us, and the editor would like more context on what we're looking for than what we've sent you in our notes, feel free to have them email me at eclark@cedarfort.com with your name, the title of your book, and any information we've already given you on what the book might need.
