Worldwide Good Friday Fast Unites Religious Leaders

COVID-19 has done both terrible things to our world as well as brought out many amazing things. It is incredible to see the world come together to fight this virus, to find solutions, and to help one another. Although life isn't completely back to normal yet, it's exciting to see the progress we are making.

One of the awe-inspiring things that is happening on April 10th, 2020, is a worldwide fast for Good Friday participated by many religions and religious leaders who, although have different doctrines and beliefs, have decided to come together during this time and to unite in prayer and fast. 1.3 billion Catholics will all be participating in Good Friday, as well as members from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and different protestant and evangelical sects of Christianity.

But that isn't all who are participating. A Facebook group called "The Worldwide Fast April 10", created by Elder Jaden Taylor, and LDS missionary, has seen a growth of over 300,000 joined members who are committed to fasting on Good Friday. Members of this group have identified themselves from the following religious beliefs:

  • Catholic
  • Latter-day Saint
  • Hindu
  • Muslim
  • Jewish
  • Sikh
  • Christian
  • Wiccan
  • Atheist
  • Buddhist
  • Scientology
  • Pagan
  • Methodist

“During times of deep distress, as when illness reaches pandemic proportions, the most natural thing for us to do is to call upon our Heavenly Father and his Son — the master healer — to show forth their marvelous power to bless the people of the Earth,” President Nelson said on Saturday.

“Let us unite in pleading for healing throughout the world,” he added. “Good Friday would be the perfect day to have our Heavenly Father and his Son hear us.”

Will you be participating in this worldwide fast?
