In a notice given from the General Authorities, the following changes will occur in 2021 for Seminary and Institute:
- Seminary and Institute will follow a 12-month study schedule rather than a 9-month schedule. This is due to the courses coinciding with Come Follow Me.
The Church notice said about the 75% scripture reading that:
This change emphasizes the importance for students to develop a habit of daily scripture study to help deepen their understanding and reliance on Jesus Christ, His teachings, and His Atonement. Teachers should continue to encourage students to set personal reading goals and to read the text for the course, but this will no longer be a requirement for course credit.
President Russell M. Nelson said in his talk "Hear Him," during the April 2020 General Conference:
"As we seek to be disciples of Jesus Christ, our efforts to hear Him need to be ever more intentional. It takes conscious and consistent effort to fill our daily lives with His words, His teachings, His truths. … Daily immersion in the word of God is crucial for spiritual survival, especially in these days of increasing upheaval. As we feast on the words of Christ daily, the words of Christ will tell us how to respond to difficulties we never thought we would face."
