Book of Mormon A Graphic Novel Contest and GIveaway
A new illustrated Book of Mormon is making its debut and it’s unlike anything you've ever seen before. Staying true to the story you know and love, while adding quirks, personalities and strong character development to the story, that just makes sense. This graphic novel is turning heads. Experience the faith-filled struggles of Nephi’s family in a completely new light.

To celebrate the launch of volume 1, we're running two contests
1st Contest - 3 Winners Will Be Drawn Into Lehi's Dream
You’ve been told to liken the scriptures to your life since you can remember. Now is your chance to be IN the Book of Mormon. Pablo is currently working on volume II of the Book of Mormon Graphic Novel series. Three lucky winners will have the chance to appear as characters in Lehi's Dream. We can't guarantee where you'll end up, be it by the Tree of Life, drowning in the fountain of filthy water or mocking believers in the Great and Spacious building. This may be your only chance to visit the Great and Spacious building without facing eternal consequences ;)
How to enter:
Visit our post on Facebook or Instagram and tag a friend who would be stoked to get this graphic novel, or leave a comment on the post. Each friend you tag counts as one entry, and one comment counts as one entry. You may enter up to 7 times total per person.
The winners will be announced on Cedar Fort’s Facebook and Instagram pages on June 1st.
2nd Contest - 25 Winners Will Get an Original Sketch from Pablo Smith
As with any great undertaking there is a lot of work that takes place before it's ready for it's final debut. Before writing and finalizing a graphic novel, several types of pre-sketches (pre-production drawings) are essential to ensure visual consistency, story flow, and structural integrity. These include:
1. Character Design Sheets (Model Sheets)
These are crucial for maintaining consistency, especially if the project is long. Turnarounds: Front, side, 3/4, and back views of each main character. Expression Sheets: Drawings showing a character’s range of emotions (happy, sad, angry, surprised) to define their personality. Pose/Action Studies: Sketches showing how the character moves, walks, or acts, helping to define their "silhouette". Outfit/Costume Exploration: Detailed drawings of clothing to ensure they look the same in every panel.
2. World-Building & Environmental Sketches
Key Locations: Rough sketches of important, repeated settings (e.g., the protagonist's bedroom, the antagonist's lair) to ensure spatial consistency. Props/Vehicles: Detailed designs for unique items that appear frequently (e.g., a magical weapon, a spaceship). Mood Boards/Style Concepts: Sketches that explore the lighting, atmospheric feel, and overall art style of the world.
3. Thumbnails (Storyboards)
Thumbnails are small, messy, quick sketches used to plan the entire book's layout and pacing. Page Layouts: Small drawings (usually 2-3 inches wide) that show panel arrangements for every page. Story Beats: Simple shapes and gestures that map out where characters are, where they look, and how the action flows across the page. Dialogue/Word Balloon Placement: Rough notes on where text will go to ensure the art isn't covered up.
