Cedar Fort, Inc. - Manuscript Submission Guildelines

Here at Cedar Fort we like to publish a wide variety of books. We are always on the lookout for new and exciting material that will capture the public's interest. However, there are a few genres with which we are very selective. We rarely take biographies, autobiographies, or memoirs unless they have a very strong selling point (such as Mafia to Mormon). We do not at this time accept poetry from new poets. And although we do put out several children's books each year, we are extremely selective about which children's books we publish. Our children's books must have strong religious or moral values, and must contain outstanding writing and an excellent storyline. We do not require that you submit illustrations with your children's book, but it is a plus if you are able to do so.

*If you are on the freeway traveling south from Provo, take exit 260 and turn right at the light as you leave the exit.
*If you are on the freeway traveling north from Spanish Fork, take exit 260 and turn left as you leave the exit. Cross the freeway, and go through the light.

Immediately past the light there is a gas station. Turn left on the road immediately past the gas station.

Follow this road as it winds behind Cracker Barrel and up past the front of the Neways building (a big, white building with lots of windows).

Just past the Neways building you will come to a road on the right. This is 700 South. Take this road. We are about 2/3 of the way down the road in a two-story brown brick building. We're also the only building on the road, so if you can't find us ...

Fill out the New Manuscript Submission Form and include it with your manuscript.

You may either mail us a copy of your book or drop one by our offices.

We ask that you not bind your book (no spiral binding, 3-ring binders, stapling, etc), but if you have already done so prior to visiting our website, then we might forgive you if you include a really good excuse for having done so in your cover letter. In this case, just go ahead and send in your book as is, but please be sure to include the other information we ask for.

Please submit your final version of the manuscript. This is for your own protection in the case that the book is accepted for publication, as well as the protection of the acquisitions editors, since the book editors have been known to seek revenge when the author submits a different version than that which the acquisitions editors first gave them. (Note that our book editors are almost always sweet, helpful, and calm. As with any other group of people, however ... anyway, we highly recommend you don't push your luck.)

We generally do not talk to an author prior to reading the manuscript; we like to see the manuscript as a customer would (in a store, without the author there). If you do speak with us about your book, know that none of that information will be passed along to our reviewers.

You can expect to hear back from us any time within a week to 3 months. We generally take 1 - 2 months to respond. This simply depends on the type of book, the number of reviewers, and the amount of impossibly pressing matters (sometimes unrelated to submissions) that our Acquisitions and Review departments happen to be dealing with at any given time.

If we accept a book, we usually respond by email. If we are unable to publish your book, we will usually notify you by mail.

In the case that we do not accept your manuscript, and you'd like the manuscript returned to you, please include adequate postage and packaging for your book (please do not attach postage to packaging - it upsets the post office when pre-stamped packages exceed certain limits). You can either send postage and packaging with your submission, or wait until we notify you of our decision.
