Jonathan Decker’s “250 Great Movies for Latter-day Families” and Stephen J. Stirling’s “Shedding Light on the Dark Side: Defeating the Forces of Evil (A Guide for Youth and Young Adults)” are our September LDS nonfiction releases, and we couldn’t be happier!
Decker is a licensed marriage and family therapist that moonlights as a film critic, providing Hollywood movie reviews from a Latter-day Saint perspective at mormonmovieguy.com. He also writes regularly for Meridian Magazine, Modern Mormon Men, and Mommy Bear Media, and has published articles in St. George Magazine, Desert Saints Magazine, and Southern Bride Magazine.
He earned a master’s degree from Auburn University, where his thesis was picked up for international publication. He has a background in entertainment, winning a campus-wide talent show at Brigham Young University for his act, “One-Man Lord of the Rings,” and spending two years as a writer and performer with the popular BYU humor group Divine Comedy. Jonathan lives with his wife and children in St. George, Utah.
Stirling was born in Los Angeles, California and spent his youth growing up in the semi-ghetto of nearby Huntington Park. He lived two years as a professional tramp, survived a South American revolution in his mission to Chile, has been driven out of town by the Mafia at least once, and in high school was a member of the Black Panthers. He spent 15 years as a freelance writer and is currently a seminary teacher in Mesa, Arizona.
Both books will be released on Sept. 10.
