From Britain's misty moors to its urban sprawl of London come the stories of twelve of the greatest men in LDS Church History.

Although the Church began in a small town in New York, through the years influential Latter-day Saints have come from all corners of the earth. One land in particular, Great Britain, has produced some of the most revered leaders in Church History. In Twelve Sons of Britain, BYU scholar Lawrence Flake takes an insightful look into the lives of twelve noble leaders from Britain over a span of two centuries. They led diverse lives under different circumstances - from Derek A. Cuthbert, whose wife mistook three missionary elders for three strange men all named "Elmer, " to James Edward Talmage, who almost delayed his baptism because of a mysterious, angry howl from the darkened forest - yet all twelve shared a strong commitment to the Church, as well as to their noble birthplace.

Dr. Lawrence R. Flake is a professor of Church history and doctrine at Brigham Young University. He earned his master's degree and doctorate from BYU in religious education and has served as a teacher and an administrator for the Church Educational System for four decades in Utah; New York; Washington, D.C.; and Montana. He is the author of five books, including Prophets and Apostles of the Last Dispensation.
