This book is like having a conversation with a friend.
An opinionated friend who sits at your kitchen table and talks about whatever is on his mind.
A friend who isn't afraid to discuss important principles, personal failures, best memories, juvenile jokes. It's a collection of words where real people talk to real people about real issues. And you will learn, agree, and laugh.
Talk-show host Bob Lonsberry, a longtime reporter and newspaper columnist, has collected his best columns and compiled them into a book in which he hopes to promote freedom, encourage endurance in the face of difficulty, foster faith, and bolster family. It's a book about bedrock American ideals that have the power to make our country and our lives better.
So whether you've listened to him for years on the radio or have never heard of him before, Lonsberry's book promises to be worth your while. His words will reach out and touch your soul just as they have hundreds of others.
Written as if talking friend-to-friend, this book will be a companion to those who are willing to stand up for what they believe in.
Reviews -
I own the bookstore where this book is sold in our community. We live in a predominately conservative neighborhood, where people are still packing guns, some people still leave their doors unlocked and where you know pretty much everyones names. I actually have a thing for collection quote & short story books, so as I was reviewing our selection of new releases I glanced at this one breifly and when I saw that it was a collection of columns I couldn't resist. I bought it. I loved that it had an index and since I am also a business consultant and currently working on projects that are centered around this new workforce (Gen ME), I immediately was able to find a story that applied to what I am preparing to teach these Gen ME's next sememster in a first-time class. The article was the "I Did My Best Is Only An Excuse." Excellent. Mr. Lonsberry hit the nail on the head. I too write for a magazine and as I read this I was amazed how he so eloquently put all that! I have wanted to say about this Gen ME into one article. I envy the way that he writes and the way that he is able to take so much of what people feel and place it into only a few pages. I am impressed also with the article on "Self-esteem Programs Destroying Young Lives" another excellent example of why this generation is having such a difficult time in our nations workforce. I have hired at least 30-40 young people since opeing my stores in 2002 and it is amazing how those who succeed with me are those that have earned my respect and worked hard for it. It is a rare find. So many of our young people are struggling with all of the things Mr. Lonsberry has written about and I am so impressed with this book. Yes Mr. Lonsberry it is worthy and it will have a place on my shelf, a shelf that is within reach from my computer and it will be the book that I take with me when I teach. I am anxious to share these things with my students and I am anxious to have them write their own opions and to have them analyze what you have written. Perhaps together we can change 50 students a year.
