A serial killer is on the loose in Yucca Flats, Nevada, and his next group of intended victims appear to be five women in their mid-seventies- four widowed and one divorced. For various reasons, the five former school classmates have returned to this quiet town where they spent their childhoods.
One of the women, Theona Worley, has come to reclaim her family’s old Victorian style mansion. Once the symbol of class and wealth, the home has always been an architectural oddity in the desert landscape, but now it is the scene of unsettling events. One of Theona’s classmates, Valdean Purdy, is convinced the mansion holds the key to resolving the mysterious incidents.
With the help of a no-nonsense female detective, Valdean’s determination to reveal the killer produces a surprising but cleverly anticipated resolution. Readers will appreciate the author’s eye for comedy and her delight in quirky characters.
Reviews-
Even while struck by Marilyn Arnold’s flawless craftmanship, I was surprised to find myself transported into an off-kilter kind of eccentric madness reminiscent of Arsenic and Old Lace.
