Eat, Drink, and Be Merry | 2 Nephi 26-30 | Come Follow Me

"Yea, and there shall be many which shall say: Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die; and it shall be well with us." - 2 Nephi 28:7

Have you heard of Vine? Youtube? Tik Tok? Instagram? Twitter? Facebook? OF COURSE YOU HAVE! Our modern day society has been succumbed by social media, which is not necessarily a bad thing. However, one "motto" that we can see throughout the content that is created and posted on these social media platforms is this idea of "eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die."

There is such a focus on the youth to have a life filled with partying, drinking, sex, and drugs. The idea of "you only live once" means that every decision that you make doesn't necessarily matter because life is meant for experiences and the consequences don't matter because at the end of the day, "you die."

Consequences are something that in society we see people struggling with. It's a concept that people are not understanding as much any more. Why? Is it because they believe that God "will justify in committing a little sin; yea, lie a little, take advantage of one because of his words," (2 Nephi 28:8).

All of 2 Nephi 28 discusses the evils of Satan and his lies. Why did Nephi feel it was important to write this chapter? A lot of the verses state that Satan will deceive us in doing wrong, by convincing us to JUSTIFY our sins. How often do we JUSTIFY the sins that we partake in? Is really only one bad scene in the movie? Is it only a few sips every so often? Is that piece of clothing only slightly revealing?

Studying 2 Nephi 28 will help us understand what we need to do to stay on the correct path, and to help us stay aware of what we may or may not be JUSTIFYING in our life.
