Blog Tour: The Darkest Summer

Rebecca J Greenwood and Cedar Fort Publishing & Media are pleased to announce “The Darkest Summer” blog tour, which will run from November 13-21, 2017.

About the book:

Lady Cora Winfield’s life has always gone according to plan–her mother’s plan. So when she meets the dark Duke of Blackdell, Cora is fascinated. Knowing his dangerous reputation, Cora’s mother flatly forbids the match, and the duke decides to take matters into his own hands. Kidnapped and facing a scandal, Lady Cora must now decide whether love will be her downfall or the beginning of a new plan, one she never dreamed possible.

Set in the stormy summer of 1816, this Regency romance is a retelling of the myth of Hades and Persephone.

Excerpt:

He stepped away and said, “Duke, may I introduce Lady Cora Winfield?”

She glanced at Eastham’s face. He had turned watchful, the teasing gone. Cora had no idea what her face showed. Panic? She swallowed and schooled her features.

“Lady Cora, may I introduce Adam Douglas, the Duke of Blackdale?”

She curtseyed and the duke bowed, his gaze not leaving her face. “It is a pleasure to meet you, Lady Cora.”

His voice almost caused her to wobble. It was deep and rich—a beautiful voice. “Likewise,” she said. It came out breathy, barely audible.

Blog Tour: The Nativity Pageant

Neil K Johnson and Cedar Fort Publishing & Media are pleased to announce “The Nativity Pageant” blog tour, which will run from November 1-15, 2017.

About the book:

Would you rather read the nativity story or be a part of it? Using simple stage directions, easy-to-find props, and a script that’s straight from the scriptures, this book helps you act out the familiar story of the first Christmas for your friends and family. Start a new tradition this season with a simple pageant you’ll look forward to performing year after year.

About the author:

Neil K. Johnson taught school for 44 years–first drama, then English–and he loves kids. He was able to teach over 7,000, and as a result, many of them won awards for their writing and drama. He was chosen as the 2010 Utah English Teacher of the Year, and he was president of a state English and two state drama and speech teacher associations. Neil received his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin at Superior. He did doctoral work at the University of Utah and the University of Northern Colorado. He wrote The Drama Source Book and compiled three books of plays. Neil and his current wife Sharee both lost their first spouses to cancer. They married and blended their family of 15 kids, and they have 50 grandkids (and counting). Neil is very active in his church, and he loves to see the enactment of the nativity pageant at Christmastime. He knows many of the struggles to make the pageant meaningful, and he has tried to address them in this dramatization.

Excerpts

Narrator 1: And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

Narrator 2: And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
(Joseph leads the “donkey” with Mary on its back [or Joseph and Mary walk together] to the stage left side of the room.)

Narrator 1: And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and lineage of David:
(Mary gets off the “donkey,” stretches her painful back, and sits.)

Narrator 2: To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. Narrator 1: And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
(Mary puts “baby” into the cradle and stares at him lovingly.)

Excerpt:

“You have to get me his number!” she declared.
“I’m not your fairy godmother,” I said.
“Come on, Lana, it’s not like I’m asking you to turn a pumpkin into a carriage. Wait!” she cried. “That’s it!”
“That’s what?”
“The kind of wedding you want.”
Ugh. What was the use of your best friend spilling beer on a fairly handsome stranger if it didn’t make her forget your previous conversation? I scowled, telling her without words, Let’s not do this, and with a glare she shouted back, Oh, we’re doing this!
“Fine,” I said, throwing my hands up. “What kind of wedding do I want?”
“You want to be a Disney bride! Bejeweled ball gown, Cinderella’s carriage, and his and hers mouse ears for the cake topper!”
“Not even close,” I said.

Excerpts

“Camelot is ready. The operation is a go,” a voice crackled through the

transceiver in my ear. The mission was being initiated and a part of me was

annoyed. Only halfway through my fried chicken, I was still pretty hungry. I

hadn’t eaten since the night before, since the plane ride down that morning

served no breakfast. Given that I was going to meet with a drug kingpin in a

few minutes, the last thing I wanted was for my stomach to be growling.

I sat in the first floor food court of the Franklin Building, El Paso’s premier

commercial block and the headquarters of the global fast food chain Beef n’

Wings. It was just after noon and the area stirred with visitors eager for their

lunch. From my position I could see two other field agents, the only other two

in the building. Far off to my right, just outside the crowds and colorful

cacophony of restaurants, a hulking teenaged boy seemed to have the same

idea I had as he snacked on a beef hot dog from one of the stands. He wore

a blue hard hat, with matching blue overalls and heavy-looking harnesses

which clung to his body. At his side he loosely held a squeegee as well as

some napkins, presumably for his meal. After taking a big gulp, his lips began

to move. It was much too noisy in the food court to pick up any word he was

saying naturally, but on the transceiver I could hear him perfectly. Percival is

ready. Let’s get this over with.”
