Kelvin Taylor was born in the Gila Valley of southeastern Arizona under the shadows of Mt. Graham. Growing up was an adventure in the small Mormon community of Pima. He was always exploring, building, hiking, working and playing sports. One of the most difficult things for him at that age was a move from his beloved Pima to the big city of Mesa when he was fourteen.
A few years later when he broke his neck in an accident, he found out life could indeed be more difficult. Doctors described a life of no feeling or movement ever again, but he was determined to prove them all wrong. Through priesthood power and faith, feeling and then movement began to return.
Although confined to a wheelchair most of the time, he was able to graduate from Westwood High School in Mesa. He also attended junior college, where he met his beautiful wife Joni. They now have four children.
Kelvin eventually graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from Arizona State University. He is currently a special education teacher in Pima, Arizona. He is also a special education consultant and motivational speaker.
