| Brother Skinner served a mission to California before receiving a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Colorado, a master of arts in Hebrew Bible - Judaic Studies from the Iliff School of Theology, a master of theology in Biblical Hebrew from Harvard University, and a doctorate in European and Near Eastern history from the University of Denver. He has served as the Dean of Religious Education at BYU and now serves as Executive Director of the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship at BYU. He is also a professor of ancient scripture at BYU.
Brother Skinner and his wife, Janet, are the parents of six children.
