G. M. Kearney was born and raised in New Sharon, Maine. He graduated with a degree in scenic design from Brigham Young University. He has worked as an editorial cartoonist for the Casper Star-Tribune in Casper, Wyoming, and as a computer programmer specializing in programs for the disabled.

He is married to Tamara Johnson. They have three children.
