 Sarah Haile

Sarah Haile
Sarah Haile is a writer and retired teacher. She spent eleven years in the Northwest Arctic, living in the Inupiat Eskimo villages of Shungnak, Kobuk, Buckland, and Kotzebue. During that time, she and her husband Don traveled much of the region by air, boat, four-wheeler and snowmobile.

The daughter of a farmer in southern Illinois, Sarah grew up living a subsistence lifestyle. In 1973, she graduated from Greenville College in Illinois and continued her graduate schooling at Southern Illinois University. In 1986, she came to Alaska to visit her brother. She fell in love with Alaska and immediately began to make plans to move there. In 1988, she accepted a teaching position in Shungnak.

Sarah writes freelance articles for the Wayne County Press in Fairfield, Illinois. In 1996, her first book, Spirits From The Past, an historical fiction story of three Inupiat Eskimo children was published
