George W. Givens passed away in the summer of 2004. George W. Givens spent twenty years teaching American History in schools in upstate New York, Arizona and Virginia before opening what became the largest family-owned bookstore in Virginia. George joined the LDS Church while living in Tucson, Arizona, in 1964. He and his wife Sylvia spent several summers in Nauvoo, Illinois, as in-house historians. They are parents of eight children.
George developed an avid interest in LDS Church history upon learning of ancestors who joined the Church in upstate New York in 1830. He was an avid writer who also published In Old Nauvoo, Out of Palmyra, The Nauvoo Fact Book, and The Hired Man's Christmas.
Most recently George enjoyed spending his time as Gospel Doctrine teacher in the Lynchburg, Virginia First Ward and traveling around the country giving firesides on Church history.
