Dr. Lawrence R. Flake is a professor of Church history and doctrine at Brigham Young University. He earned his master's degree and doctorate from BYU in religious educa¬tion and has served as a teacher and an administrator for the Church Educational System for four decades in Utah; New York; Washington, D.C.; and Montana. He has given talks and lectures throughout the United States and has traveled extensively abroad, including a six-month assignment to the BYU Jerusalem Center. Professor Flake has written for various periodicals, journals, and encyclopedias. He is the author of five books, including Prophets and Apostles of the Last Dispensation. He has served in many callings in the Church, includ¬ing regional representative, and as president of the Missouri Independence Mission. He and his wife, Elaine, who has also taught religion classes at BYU, are the parents of eight children.
