Amber Esplin

From the time she was very young, Amber Esplin, born in Preston, Idaho, loved to read or hear stories read aloud. Some of the books she loved growing up, especially Dawn's Early Light by Elswyth Thane and Mrs. Mike by Benedict and Nancy Freedman, are still among her all-time favorites and have even affected her life in other ways. (For example, when she was deciding where to go to graduate school, she was partial to the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, mostly because Dawn's Early Light is set in Williamsburg during the Revolutionary War.)

Amber went to Brigham Young University and studied French and History. Later, she earned a master's degree in early American history from the College of William and Mary. While at William and Mary, she worked as a research assistant on a project involving apprenticeship records from a school in England, and the historical parts of Leaving Eden grew out of that experience.

Amber Esplin lives in Northern Virginia in a suburb of Washington, D.C., where she works as a copy editor for scientific journals.
