Marcus W. Barnes has served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a bishop and a counselor in a Stake Presidency, taught seminary and was a seminary principal in Rigby, Idaho, for twenty-eight years.
He and his wife, Joan Bates Barnes, served together as missionaries in Toronto, Canada, and Tarawa, Kiribati, in the Pacific. They are the parents of ten children and the grandpartents of fifty-four grandchildren
